Sometimes, my older ideas evolve with time. I know it's been taking me forever to get the stilt walker done, but she hasn't quite sat right with me. (
goddess of rain took me 2 years before she was completed) Sometimes my pieces do what I wish I could do to myself -- alter, erase, redraw lines where I really wish they would fall...
I also rarely work from one source of inspiration, though this time around, after fiddling with poses, etc, I keep falling back to the original. The long legs, the slow sweeping walk, and I see a lot of green (...as usual)
Remember my
Forest Goddess? She was inspired by a hill on my way home from work (...when I had a job). Recently, humans have plundered that hill, destroying what had been there all for the sake of expansion. It's a horrible spot for a building, and there used to be such wonderful mornings with fog coiling around the slender trunks. All gone, toppled over.
I should go drive out there with the camera, park in the graveyard's lot and go take a few pictures before it's all gone. I should've taken a picture of this ent tree near by, because now it's fallen over, thanks to a few bad summer/fall storms we had had this year.
I was bitching to my friend (Who thankfully wasn't paying attention...) that my art is just women and trees. So I was struggling to do something
different, forcing myself to try something new, where as... this piece HAS to be a woman/creature and trees. There's nothing else she can be, but just the pose was lacking in that glimpse of a story for someone else to latch onto.
After fiddling around with trying to nail a pose, I went back to the original profile view of her walking along, though altered it slightly so she's climbing stairs. A bridge it became, a place for the child me to hide under and watch this creature pass, creating as she walks overhead. This drawing has been giving me a headache, truthfully, and I really want her out and painted, but I also do not want to muck it up, and rushing will do that.
She's become something inspired as well by a dream I had when I was half falling asleep, a goddess of vines and leaves, gracefully walking a staircase, and I had tried a few times to capture her as well. But, I think I'm getting somewhere, finally... Who knows when she'll be done, if this'll become my first painting for 2008. I've drawn this goddess a few times, I think she's the highest up, the life giver...
Give thanks to the power of Dr. Pepper for the length of this post of random nonsense *g*
( PILE OF SKETCHES )It helps me sometimes to talk about what I'm trying to do, instead of just thinking it, I spew it out and force you all to see it too >_>
