Echo in the Mere - WIP painting

Going to see if I can just use watercolors for this (maybe some gouache for pulling some light back in)

so far... it was underpaint of yellow & ochre... then darker blues... then the background trees and leaves. Yellow between the background branches. Then took the same blue (indigo) and mixed it with a new green color for the main tree.

Wide Images In here )

Been stabbing at this all day, couldn't figure out what pose to go with, so I threw it at my friend and liked the reasonings for why he went with this one:

She looks more supple there, more at ease and questing. was what caught my attention the most... bolded the important word.

I've been struggling with this one very badly. I've complete and utter control over how this image'll turn out (since he doesn't want to see it and told me to go with what i want, as long as it's the opening scene) and I really wanted to push myself to get to my next 'level'. Then about 45 minutes ago, I realized that what my problem was with this was that I was trying to make it not MY work. I was going to try and do something so utterly and completely different, ignoring the image in my head (a shadow of an image really...) that it was driving me nuts. So I went and played katamari after having some dinner, while matt took a nap.

Skimmed over the email conversations I've been having and this bit stuck out in the latest one: Well, I definitely wanted to pick a piece that I thought would fit your style, otherwise what would be the point? I'm glad it connected with you in some way.

For some stupid reason, I didn't want to draw a girl and some trees, because that's what I always draw. Completely forgetting that THAT was what this piece is supposed to be! I think I was attempting to abstract my work, but it's not going to work, at least not with this piece.

I'm going to move it to big paper tomorrow, and I'll try to remember to take progress shots along the way. If I don't, I'll get stuck again and won't get moving on this painting for yet another week.

Echo in the Mere

Echo: Who is the girl in the water? Is it myself I see, or someone I'm dreaming? (she gently touches the surface of the pool)
If I reach out my hand, why can I not touch you? Our fingers meet, but your world dissolves from view in the rippled glass. Are you gone? Do you dissolve as well, or do you remain, though obscured from my sight? Would you exist, even if I looked away?
(Pause, she withdraws her hand)
Which of us is the reflection, you or I? The beauty of your world is greater than mine. The moon here seems garish and bright, but yours floats languid and pale. These branches, twisted and angry, but yours sway gently in slumber. If the hand of God creates all that is beautiful, then yours must be the world he crafted, and mine the hallow reflection of divinity.
(pause)
Is it you, then, who created my world, and will I vanish if you turn away? Am I only a passing figment of your dreams?
(There is a sound in the forest. She looks up, startled)
Is someone there?
(Silence)
Who is there?

Looking for comments/suggestions. I have an idea, but I'm not too sure about how to pose her, that's always the most important part for me, because nature can meld around aftewards. :)

This is the part I'll be working on, it continues on to have a stranger enter.
I'm trying to stay away from it looking like my Green Fairy
