The more I look at this, the more I see a squid. Hrrrr.

Not sure if she's 100% done, but I've been 2 inches from her vines on and off this week and I need to look at something else.

I love the swirly bottom part of the woman, how'd you achieved that effect? On the color I mean?

the part where there's light and dark that look like bubbles, etc?

that's where the 2 inches from the paper comes in. if you look hard enough, with transparent paints, you can start picking out where it happened to dry a little lighter, and pull it out more (after 100% dry, or it bleeds in) by doing another layer. it's a slow build up, but i've always enjoyed the effect.

The contrast between the paper and the paint is really cool. It looks like she's trapped in the paper. So beautiful!

That, or also like she's emerging from the paper as much as she can {has she just released the last hand offered to help her?} ...exciting counterpoint between her lower vines / tentacles and how her hair seems to be dissolving into the same idea ;-)

Gorgeous. And I like the hints of squidiness (but then again, I'm a known cephalapod fetishist.)

I see the likeness to a squid (but only in theory/idea)
The colors are beautiful!
Did you use acrylic and watercolor on this piece?

Your line work isn't usually so prominent, I think. I have to admit I really like them here.

But I don't see a squid so much as a jellyfish. Like one of the huge man-o-war. Elegant, drifting, deceptively harmless.

Or maybe an octopus! A bit like a squid, but prettier. :D

That is beautiful!

What does "tea painting" mean?

scroll down :) http://gymnopedie.livejournal.com/tag/tea+painting

though I'm told archival isn't the best *frowns a bit* ive got a piece over 10 years old that is still in perfect condition, but I'm going to have to do some research to make sure these things LAST longer.

aye :D I've been playing with it for years now. It takes a while if you do the soaking process... might have to try it on canvas one day.
