Well, erm ... // disclaimer: *you're* the artist and please don't read any disrespect of that into this, because none is intended at all:

The sky still looks too bright, thus contributing to the lack of suspense / menace ... I think you could easily darken and mysterious - ize it without losing the treebranch outlines ...

I'm moved by how much the bark on the trees resembles the scales of serpents. Prob too late in the process for this, but I'd love to see an experiment in making one tree into a live serpent towering over and BEHIND one of the girls where she can't see it, about to strike downwards at her ...

Add subtle lines from the flashlights onto the house, or a slight suggestion of the yellow cones they'd make in the fog on their way to the house walls?

Figures in the windows add a lot, especially the one in the front tower that's backlighted YUMMM

The eight lighted pairs of eyes in the trunks / grass seem overkill to me, fewer would be more powerful ...

If one of the girls is carrying a folded umbrella, how about a suggestion of rain or more thick mist?

----

Off topic / in other news, the framed print of "The Secret Place" just came back from the gallery, I gave it to Megan [one of two of yours which are her wedding presents from me] so, Megan is burning me a CD of her 200+ wedding shots so I can send some to you soon!

It was on a mountaintop but in broad daylight, not scary at all except for the nontraditional minister, who had materialized out of the woods and apparently had no car ...

it's too late now (I sent it off to him)
but I always keep comments around that I dig through (with tags so I can dig back better) so if something that's a bit dark again, I can look back. :) definitely a big thanks though, I always want crits on pieces, even if I'm dusting my hands of it and shoving it away *chuckle*

*chuckle doubles* shoving toward new things also!

Megan has fallen totally in love with "Maggie and Her Bear" [despite loving her new husband] because when she was little she had a bear toooooooooo .... so I can't hardly crit that one at all !!

You know that reminds me of Van Gogh with the trees.

It's definitely much more scary/dark now. I hope he likes it.

mmmmmm I kept squinting, very very hard at this one and the previous post -- this one is more detailed?

I may be very odd, I like the previous one better -- felt that the little missing details evokes a certain fog-like misty-ness and a kind of chill I felt is very appropriate to the piece of work,

when it gets clearer and sharper and more contrasty, that fog and chill just dissipates -- do you get what I mean? :P
